Bequia is seven square miles and punches far above that. Admiralty Bay is one of the great anchorages in the Caribbean, crowded with cruising yachts and ringed by a town, Port Elizabeth, that still has model-boat builders working mahogany by hand — a craft descended from the island’s whaling and boatbuilding past. Princess Margaret Beach is a short walk from the jetty, the turtle sanctuary protecting hawksbills is the real thing rather than a photo op, and the whole island runs at a pace that resets your nervous system inside a day.
Beyond Bequia
Mustique sits a short ferry ride away and has been a discreet celebrity retreat for decades. The Tobago Cays are an uninhabited marine park where you can snorkel with sea turtles over sand flats. And on the mainland, La Soufrière — an active volcano — anchors a landscape of rainforest, black-sand beaches, and waterfalls that feels a world away from the white-sand Caribbean cliche.
Practical Notes
Bequia has no deep-water cruise pier, so ships typically anchor in Admiralty Bay and come ashore by tender. That is a feature, not a flaw — it keeps the island the size it has always been.
