Always Be Contributing

Giving back to the places that welcome us.

The causes our family supports, the people we’ve met through them, and how you can help.

Small acts, everywhere we go.

Every community we visit gives our family something: a meal, a lesson, a welcome we didn’t expect. So we look for ways to give something back.

Sometimes it’s small, like picking up trash on a beach or paying the asking price at a market stall instead of haggling over a dollar. Sometimes it’s rolling up our sleeves, like packing food bags in Mexico or playing with the kids at a children’s home in Bali. And always, it’s putting money behind the organizations doing the work long after we’ve flown home.

Our kids have been part of every one of these. Of everything travel has taught them, it may be the lesson we’re proudest of.

Causes we support

Where we give back.

Every donation link goes straight to the organization, so whatever you give goes to them, not through us.

The Philippines

Project PEARLS

Our Philippine charitable partner works with families in some of the country’s poorest communities, guided by six words: Peace, Education, Aspiration, Respect, Love and Smiles. Its programs cover schooling, meals, healthcare and empowerment for kids who would otherwise go without. We’ve seen its work up close, and that episode is one of our proudest.

Dauin, the Philippines

Atmosphere Soup Kitchen

Fully funded by the local Atmosphere Resort, this program’s first job is lunch: nutritious meals for kids ages 6 to 12, five days a week, so hunger never gets in the way of school. It also covers uniforms, school supplies and vitamins, and runs a clever Piggy Bank initiative: five families at a time are given a piglet to raise until it’s big enough to sell, and the proceeds are split between the families and reinvested in the program.

Uluwatu, Bali

Bali Life Foundation

Far more than an orphanage. The children here, ages 3 to 18, aren’t up for adoption; Bali Life gives them a permanent home, plus the schooling and care to build a future with hope, dignity and purpose. Its programs reach families across the community too. Our time with the kids there was a highlight of our stay in Bali.

Worldwide

Unbound

Unbound partners directly with families living in poverty and helps them become self-sufficient on their own terms, not anyone else’s. It holds an A+ rating from the independent watchdog CharityWatch, which found that 90% of its spending goes to its programs.

San Miguel de Allende, Mexico

Centro Infantil de los Ángeles

Quality daycare and preschool for the children with the greatest need. Working parents know their kids are fed, cared for and learning somewhere safe while they build a better life for their families, and the whole community is better for it. We saw it firsthand while living in San Miguel.

San Miguel de Allende, Mexico

Amigos al 100

One of our family’s first volunteer days: packing and handing out food bags with this group of San Miguel residents, for neighbors who lost their income during the pandemic. Food relief is just one of the causes they take on. For our kids especially, it was the day giving back stopped being an idea and became something they did.
