A Primeval Sanctuary in Unrivaled Luxury

There are few places on Earth where the veil between the modern world and the prehistoric era is thinner than in the Galápagos. This expedition doesn't just show you the islands; it immerses you in a living laboratory of evolution. Your journey begins in Quito, a city of baroque gilded churches and Andean mist, before a private charter whisks you to the volcanic archipelago that changed the course of natural history.

Aboard the Silver Origin—Silversea’s first destination-specific ship—the experience is as seamless as it is profound. You will navigate the Bolivar Canal, hike over "pahoehoe" lava fields that look like the surface of the moon, and snorkel alongside marine iguanas and playful sea lions. With a team of expert naturalists leading every zodiac excursion, you’ll go beyond mere sightseeing to truly understand the delicate, spectacular ecology of Darwin’s Eden.

The Birders Paradise

Zodiacs land you on the white sands of Darwin Bay, where sea lions share the beach with prehistoric-looking marine iguanas. Head inland to encounter a vertical world of seabirds: immature Red-footed Boobies perching within arm's reach and Great Frigatebirds soaring overhead. Later, ascend Prince Philip’s Steps to the plateau for a panoramic view of the caldera. The morning’s hike is balanced by an afternoon of deep-water snorkeling, revealing schools of vibrant reef fish and brilliant sea stars in the sunken crater's waters.

Lava Fields and Moonscapes

Step onto the black lava of North Seymour to find a landscape teeming with life—blue-footed boobies performing their ritualized mating dances and frigatebirds inflating their vivid red pouches. The terrain is a stark contrast of prickly pear cactus and volcanic boulders. In the afternoon, Sullivan Bay on Santiago Island offers a glimpse into the earth's raw power. Walk across 'pahoehoe' lava flows that look like frozen black rope, a moon-like expanse that dates back only to 1897, while bright red Sally Lightfoot crabs provide a pop of color against the obsidian shore.

The Bolivar Canal

The Bolivar Canal offers some of the archipelago's most spectacular diversity. At Fernandina Island, explore a hidden cove where mangroves serve as a nursery for juvenile sharks and green sea turtles. Beneath the surface, you may see flightless cormorants diving or marine iguanas grazing on algae. Later, at Punta Moreno on Isabela Island, hike across a vast, corrugated lava field caught between the Sierra Negra and Cerro Azul volcanoes. It is a hauntingly beautiful landscape where Darwin’s finches flit between emerald lagoons and giant marine iguanas bask on sun-warmed rock.

The Highlands of Santa Cruz

Anchor in Puerto Ayora to visit the world-renowned Charles Darwin Research Station. Here, you’ll witness the conservation efforts for the island’s most famous residents—the Giant Tortoise. After learning about the captive breeding programs, head into the lush highlands where the microclimate shifts, offering a verdant habitat vastly different from the coastal lava fields. Spend the afternoon wandering through the charming art galleries and cafes of Puerto Ayora, the vibrant heart of the Galápagos human community.

Ancient Española

Española is the oldest island in the chain, and its isolation has bred incredible endemism. Start at Gardner Bay, a stunning stretch of coral-sand beach where Hood Mockingbirds and Galapagos Hawks roam. The afternoon brings you to Punta Suarez, where sheer cliffs create massive thermals for the Waved Albatross. From April to December, these ocean wanderers perform their elaborate courtship displays here. Between the blowholes shooting seawater into the air and the colorful marine iguanas, it is one of the most photographically rewarding landings in the islands.

The Marine Wolves

Your final full day of exploration takes you to Isla Lobos, named for the 'Marine Wolves' or sea lions that bark and snooze along its shores. This tiny sanctuary is also a prime spot to see Blue-footed Boobies strutting along the coast. Later, visit Cerro Brujo, where a massive tuff cone has been sculpted by the elements into a natural cathedral. Relax on one of the archipelago's most beautiful white-sand beaches, or snorkel in the crystal-clear lagoon behind the dunes where stilts and plovers wade in the shallows.

Public spaces are designed around both contemplation and connection. Elegant lounges, observation areas, and social hubs like the Explorer Lounge and outdoor barbecue-style Grill bring guests together while underpinning the relaxed yet refined feel. Whether you’re returning from a Zodiac excursion or sipping a cocktail under the stars, each moment feels thoughtfully curated.

Silver Origin isn’t just built for exploration — it’s built for responsible exploration. Advanced systems reduce environmental impact, and design choices reflect a commitment to sustainability in one of the planet’s most fragile ecosystems. Combined with bespoke service and Silversea’s hallmark inclusions, this ship represents a compelling meeting point of high-end cruising and authentic adventure.

TBD Lodging

Some of our itineraries don’t list specific hotels, resorts, camps, or other accommodations in advance. In many of the destinations we feature—particularly remote, seasonal, or high-demand regions—accommodations aren’t confirmed until closer to departure to ensure the best availability, locations, and overall experience.

This approach allows brands to stay flexible and select the most suitable properties at the right time, rather than locking into sub-optimal options far in advance. As a result, exact properties, locations, and room types may vary from trip to trip, but the standard of comfort and quality is always consistent with the experience described.
