Explora's Black Friday Sale: Up to 40% Off, If You're Ready to Commit

The big one is back, in two versions this time

Every year Explora Journeys runs one sale that’s bigger than the rest, and this is it. It’s called The Exclusive Invitation, it opened on October 28, and it runs until December 1, 2026, the day after Cyber Monday. The headline is up to 40% off, and it covers the vast majority of Explora’s current sailings.

There’s a twist this year. Last year Explora’s Black Friday offer came with both the 40% and a 5% deposit. This year they’ve split those into two fares, so you choose between the bigger discount and the easier terms. The right choice depends on how sure you are about your dates.

Full Payment Fare: the 40%, and what it costs you

Up to 40% off. In return, you pay the whole fare when you book, the reservation is non-refundable, and it can’t be changed.

That last part is the one to sit with. “Can’t be changed” means if a work trip lands on your sailing, a parent gets sick, or you just find a better week, the money stays with Explora. This fare is a great deal for people whose plans are set, and an expensive one for anybody whose plans change.

Flexible Fare: 30% off and room to change your mind

Up to 30% off, with a 5% deposit when you book and Explora’s standard cancellation terms after that. The rest of the fare is due on Explora’s normal schedule, and if your plans fall apart early enough, you’re not out the whole fare.

Thirty percent off on a 5% deposit would be the headline of most cruise lines’ best sale of the year. It only looks like second prize here because it’s sitting next to the 40%.

Which one we’d pick

Here’s how we’ll advise most people:

• Take the Full Payment Fare if the dates are fixed (a milestone birthday, an anniversary, a school break you can’t move), the money is set aside, and you buy travel insurance the day you book. Look at cancel-for-any-reason cover in particular: it usually has to be bought within a couple of weeks of your first payment, and it pays back a portion of the fare, not all of it.
• Take the Flexible Fare if there’s any real chance your plans will move, if you’re booking more than a year out, or if you’re booking for a group and can’t vouch for everybody’s calendar.

The gap between the two is up to ten points. On a suite that would otherwise cost $10,000, that’s $1,000. It’s real money, but it’s what you pay for being able to change your mind. Some people should keep that option, and some honestly don’t need it. We’ll price both and tell you which one makes sense for you.

What you’re actually buying

The sale changes the price, not the trip. Every Explora suite has a private terrace, and the fare includes the things other lines charge extra for: drinks, wifi, gratuities, and nearly every restaurant on board. Yes, it stacks

This is the part that makes a good sale a great one. The Black Friday fare isn’t the final number: the extras we add as a Virtuoso agency (usually onboard credit) go on top of it. You get the sale price and our perks, not one or the other.

One timing note: our October post covered unpublished discounts on 186 Explora voyages, and that window closes October 31. If your voyage is on that list too, ask us now and we’ll price it every way and book whichever comes out lowest.

The fine print, minus the lawyer voice

Book by December 1, 2026. That’s the deadline to book. Your sailing can be any time after that, as long as it’s in the sale.

It covers the vast majority of current sailings. A small number of departures aren’t included, and “up to” means the discount varies by sailing. Tell us where and roughly when you want to go, and we’ll tell you quickly what your sailing gets.

Explora prices dynamically. The discount comes off the current fare, and popular sailings get more expensive as they fill. A discount on today’s fare beats the same discount on next month’s.
