Founded in 1991, Quark Expeditions helped define what modern polar travel looks like. Long before Antarctica became widely accessible, Quark was chartering former Soviet icebreakers and bringing small groups of travelers into places few civilians had ever seen. Much of Quark’s fleet is chartered and purpose-selected for specific polar missions, allowing the brand to deploy different vessels depending on route and ice conditions. Their standout ship, however, is Ultramarine—a purpose-built expedition vessel designed specifically for Quark’s style of exploration.
