2018
For years we lived like many American families: a comfortable home in Denver, Phil’s small business paying for it and for regular vacations around the U.S. Every day felt pretty much like the last. We were craving change.

Our story
Since 2020 we’ve been traveling the world to experience, up close and in person, the natural wonders and distinct cultures our kids would otherwise only see in textbooks and on TV. We think it’s a better way to learn, and we’ve worked hard to fund our little experiment in the hope that they grow up wiser, kinder and more grateful for the beauty of this planet and its people.

For years we lived like many American families: a comfortable home in Denver, Phil’s small business paying for it and for regular vacations around the U.S. Every day felt pretty much like the last. We were craving change.

2019
We were struggling to find the right schools for three kids and longing to escape Colorado winters. Morning walks became daily conversations about how we’d live next. Eventually something clicked: we stopped planning for the life of our dreams and started making the changes that would let us live it. “One day” became “day one.”

2020
Within a year the pandemic and our own intentions had changed everything: three kids in online school and all of us locked down in a new home on Coronado Island. By the time travel restrictions lifted, the paradigm had flipped. Between the kids’ virtual schools and Phil’s virtual office we had the freedom to explore, so we designed life around travel instead of the other way round.

2021
As we saw how much the kids (and the two of us) were changing through constant travel and immersion in other cultures, each trip became less about leisure and more about authentic local life, and about giving back to the communities we met. Reagan chose in-person high school and began splitting time between our home and her mother’s; the rest of us scheduled most travel for when she was with her mom, and she joined whenever she wanted.

2023
Brooklyn and Colt kept studying through their online program, which let us visit the same science, history, geography and people they were learning about in school.

2024
After discovering the treasures of Southeast Asia, we set up a second home in the Philippines. An Asian hub made all seven continents easier to reach without all the flight miles, and gave us more time in one of our favorite countries in the world.
2025
Five full years of semi-nomadic travel, seven continents wrapped up on our first trek to Antarctica, and another change of gears: Reagan headed to university, Brooklyn started in-person high school (Colt is sticking with online), and we launched ABC Trips. It’s the business we’d been building toward without quite knowing it: luxury and expedition travel, planned by two people who have actually done it. We specialize in polar and expedition cruises, small-ship and superyacht voyages, safaris, river journeys and the bucket-list itineraries we’ve scouted ourselves, always with the upgrades and perks our partnerships can add. And a few times a year we host the trips in person, so you can travel with us. We’re still traveling constantly.
