A World Record on the Roof of Africa

For twenty years, Race2Adventure has defined the intersection of international exploration and athletic community. In 2028, we transition from the trail to the peak with a singular, historic goal: to lead 100 adventurers to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in a single morning. This isn't just a trek; it is a sanctioned attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest group to reach the "Roof of Africa" together.

The journey begins not with a climb, but with a mission of gratitude at the O’Brien School for the Maasai, ensuring our impact on Tanzania is felt long after we leave. From there, we embrace the philosophy of "Pole Pole"—Slowly, Slowly. Across five distinct climate zones, from lush rainforests to alpine deserts, our team of world-class guides, chefs, and porters will provide a "glamping" experience that defies the rugged terrain. You will move in core groups of ten, supported by vitals checks and elite logistics, until the midnight push for Uhuru Peak. This is your chance to do something extraordinary, surrounded by a hundred friends, under the light of a full lunar cycle.

Arrival in Tanzania

Friday, February 4th, 2028

Your African odyssey begins at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). Whether you are arriving fresh from home or concluding a pre-trip safari in the Serengeti, our team will meet you for a private transfer to our base hotel. This first day is designed for decompression and connection. Settle into your room, take a dip in the pool, and prepare for the journey ahead. Tonight, we gather on the great lawn for our first team briefing, registration, and a celebratory welcome dinner. It’s the perfect moment to meet your fellow record-breakers before the first of many memorable nights in Tanzania.

The O’Brien School Visit

Saturday, February 5th, 2028

Before we look toward the peak, we look toward the community. Today we visit the O’Brien School for the Maasai, a facility supporting over 400 students. You’ll be greeted by the powerful singing of the Maasai children in a ceremony that defines the spirit of this adventure. We will tour the Poultry Project—a program funded by R2A in 2025—and share a luncheon with the staff and students. This afternoon is dedicated to the final logistics of the climb: equipment rentals, final bag weighs for our porters, and a detailed safety briefing. Enjoy one last night in a plush bed; tomorrow, the mountain calls.

Into the Rainforest

Sunday, February 6th, 2028

The ascent begins. After a short transfer to the Lemosho Gate, we enter the first of five climate zones: the lush, emerald rainforest. Today’s mantra is 'Pole Pole'—Slowly, Slowly. We walk through the canopy, watching for Colobus monkeys and vibrant birdlife during a gentle four-hour trek to Tree Camp. Your arrival at camp reveals the true S2A experience: your tents are already pitched, the dining tent is set, and a hot meal is waiting. This is 'glamping' at 9,000 feet. Settle into your down bag and fall asleep to the sounds of the jungle as you complete your first official day on the mountain.

The Shira Plateau

Monday, February 7th, 2028

Wake up to a 'tent-side' delivery of hot coffee or tea before our morning ritual: a vitals check with your core group of ten. As we leave the rainforest, the landscape opens into the heath and moorland zone. The trek to Shira 2 Camp is more demanding—a 17km journey over nine hours—but the reward is the expansive view of the Shira Plateau. You’ll notice the air thinning and the vegetation shortening as we gain altitude. Our chefs will have a hearty dinner prepared to fuel your recovery, followed by an evening briefing under an increasingly brilliant canopy of stars.

The Lava Tower Strategy

Tuesday, February 8th, 2028

Today is defined by the 'climb high, sleep low' strategy, crucial for successful acclimatization. We ascend toward the formidable Lava Tower, a 300-foot volcanic plug, where a surprise hot tea service awaits us at nearly 15,000 feet. This is your first true taste of high altitude. After enjoying a picnic lunch in the shadows of the tower, we descend into the Barranco Valley. The descent to Barranco Camp is visually stunning, taking us through forests of giant Senecios. By the time you reach camp, you'll have given your body the perfect 'test' of elevation, setting the stage for a successful summit push.

The Barranco Wall

Wednesday, February 9th, 2028

Today begins with the famous Barranco Wall. While it looks intimidating from camp, it is a thrilling one-hour scramble that brings our group of 100 closer together. You’ll experience the 'Kissing Rock'—a narrow passage where you hug the stone to pivot around a corner—before reaching the top for incredible views of the clouds below. The trail then weaves through the Karanga Valley, passing glacial rivers and waterfalls. It’s a shorter trekking day, intentionally designed to preserve your energy. We arrive at Karanga Camp in time for a long afternoon of rest and another round of vitals checks.

Base Camp Preparation

Thursday, February 10th, 2028

The air is crisp and the excitement is palpable as we make the final move to Barafu Camp, our base for the summit. This is a short, four-hour 'Pole Pole' hike through the high alpine desert. Upon arrival at Barafu, the gravity of the mission sets in: you are staring at the peak. Today is entirely about conservation. After an early lunch, we encourage naps and quiet reflection. Following an early dinner and a final gear check, you'll head to your tent by 7:00 PM. The next time you wake, it will be midnight, and we will be moving as one toward the roof of Africa.

The Summit and the Long Descent

Friday, February 11th, 2028

This is the moment. At midnight, under the glow of a full moon, 100 headlamps begin the slow procession toward the sky. We reach Stella Point just as the first light of the sun breaks over the horizon—a moment of ginger tea and tears of joy. From there, it is a final push to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. We will stand together at the sign, 19,341 feet high, to claim our world record. After the celebration, the 'longest day' continues with a 4,000-foot descent back to Barafu for a quick nap and lunch, followed by a final 6,000-foot push down into the rainforest to Mweka Camp. You will end the day exhausted, exhilarated, and forever changed.

The Heroes Return

Saturday, February 12th, 2028

The final descent to the Mweka Gate is a victory lap. As the oxygen levels rise and the temperature warms, you’ll trek through lush forests one last time. At the gate, you will receive your official gold summit certificates—a permanent record of your achievement. Our buses will whisk us back to the hotel for the most rewarding shower of your life. We conclude the experience with a grand luncheon and a traditional 'Tipping Ceremony,' where we honor the incredible porters and guides who made our record possible. Tonight is for deep sleep and the quiet realization of what you have just accomplished.
